I've been a licensed insurance producer for over 20 years. Prior to that I served as Funeral Director and co-owner of a family-owned funeral services company in northeast Iowa. I began my career in 1985 as a care provider for an independent living and nursing home community. I became a licensed nursing home administrator in 1989, operating large retirement communities, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. I was a caregiver for my mother for 20 years, my father for five years, my husband for several months, and a daughter, who survived cancer.
I've been recognized nationally as a premier educator in the LTC field; a core instructor for The Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification (CLTC) since 2003, a former Chairman of the Board on the CLTC Board of Standards, and a faculty member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors (CSA) from 2006-2013. I was selected as a national presenter for The Women’s Project for Long-Term Care, providing education on this women’s issue, and a speaker with the Federal Long-term Care Program in 2001.
My goal is to prepare families for the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of needing care or providing care.
