Barbara Franklin

1990 was the year that Barbara Franklin began working in the field of long term care planning and financing. Little did she know at that time that she would learn the lessons of caregiving over a ten year period as she and her family dealt with the emotional and financial devastation caused by her father’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. She formed Franklin & Associates in 1995 bringing together both her personal experience with long term care and her professional experience helping individuals, couples and families.

Over the years Barbara has provided educational programs on the subject of long term care planning for civic, community and professional groups. She regularly assists attorneys, financial planners, business owners, and other professional advisors who have concerns about long term care planning for their clients. Barbara has received the Long Term Care Professional (LTCP) designation from the Health Insurance Association of America. In 2008 she was recognized at the Annual Conference of the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance as one of the nation’s Top 100 Long Term Care Specialists.

Barbara is involved in a wide range of professional and community service activities. She is Immediate Past Chairman of the Greater Charleston Chapter of the National Aging in Place Council. She is passionate as an advocate for individuals who are planning to remain safely, comfortably and independently in their residence for as long as possible. In addition she serves as a Volunteer Driver for the Senior Ride Connection and volunteers weekly in the Special Care Nursery at the Medical University of South Carolina.
